March 3, 2009

Some of you have seen photos of Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione holding an old photograph. In that photo are my late grandparents. My grandfather died many years ago, however my grandmother, my main inspiration in my life, passed away not even a year ago. It’s the anniversary of her death on March 10th.

When she passed, I inherited thousands of her old photos and sorted through each and every one of them. My last memory of my grandmother before the alzheimer’s took control of her life was going through those photographs with her.

Ten days after her death, I was in Boston for photoshoots. I shot Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls, in two different shoots. I wanted to find a way to memorialize my grandmother, and so I brought along my favorite photo of her and had them pose with it. It is by far the most beautiful photo I have ever seen in my life- I even silkscreened it onto my jacket.

My Favorite Photo Yet

For those wanting to see the photos I inherited, I posted some here:

Also, going through her old photos inspired me to start this blog of old photographs that I’ve since collected.
